Some Republicans are objecting to it, however, because it extends protections to LGBT individuals who have been victims of domestic violence, allows more battered undocumented immigrants to obtain visas and expands the authority of Native American tribes to prosecute crimes.

Really? 

MAN: Have you heard about the woman’s violence act or something like that is working through the House?

STEELMAN: I’m not sure what that is because I’m not serving right now. …

WOMAN: Violence Against Women Act. …

MAN: You haven’t really heard about it?

STEELMAN: No. Not really.

Really?  You know there was a time when anyone making a serious bid for public office knew the importance of understanding the issues.  They actually bothered to learn about current events and what was going on inside the very governmental body they where hooping to be elected to.

In what is just the latest in a series of Republican attacks on women, Senate Republicans are trying to eliminate the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). House Republicans already voted against women last month, and now a critical vote will be held in the Senate.

Twice before, VAWA was reauthorized with widespread, bipartisan support from both houses of Congress. But now, Republicans have grown so radical they won’t even commit to protecting women from violence.

Join Senate Democrats and demand Senate Republicans stop trying to eliminate VAWA!

“A Florida judge has ordered a man accused of grabbing his wife by the neck and shoving her into the back of their couch to take the woman out on a proper date”- Via Jezebel

This is a wildly inappropriate ruling.  He also ordered counseling, which if that is to be done as a couple, is also inappropriate.  Marriage counseling is not the way to go in DV situations.  What happens is that either the person being abused is too afraid to open up ( there by defeating the purpose of therapy) or they do open up and then this triggers another violent incident because the abuser didn’t like what was said. -Rachel
