Social Work Help!

yazcaminante:

Remember seeing on my dashboard a link to a website to match students with their field placements, but I can’t find it.

Anyone know the place? Pretty please with sugar on top?

Was it Intern Match?

Am I to blame for my situation?

It’s funny during a reign of unemployment the need to reevaluate life is constant. Surely, I could have done more before graduating. Networking, resume building, and interview preparation was available to me but I didn’t properly use it. However, my personal…

The irony of being an unemployed social worker

swk4life:

I graduated over the weekend. I’ve been furiously applying to jobs for the past two months. I’ve gone on several interviews and still have nothing. I know I only graduated over the weekend but I can’t help but being discouraged….I’ve got bills to pay. At least if I need government assistance I’ll know where to go since I have an understanding of systems and community supports…

I don’t know exactly what skills and experience you have, if you want you can email me your resume at rwest@politicalsocialworker.org and I will try to give you more guidance.  Are you an LMSW or LCSW?  Are you looking for direct practice work or a macro position?

Depending on your experience level you could try looking for contract work.  I also suggest sending letters of introduction with your resume directly to agencies instead of relying solely on job boards.  I  find that sending it by mail or fax instead of email works better.  Too many agencies use programs that filter their email and there is a risk that the person will never see your email because it ends up in the SPAM folder.

I’m not sure what part of NY your are in but I read on a FB group recently that Family Service League (on Long Island) is looking for family therapists.  Best of luck.
