This article from the NASW is dealing with one of my biggest professional pet peeves. If you do not have a social work degree you should not hold the job title of social worker. Licensing laws are not…
Those of us looking for employment know how frustrating the job market is right now. You apply to twenty jobs and are lucky to be called in for one interview. As the months pass you begin to wonder what you will do. Well, have you considered hiring…
Some food for thought. I don’t think you can directly blame rich stay at home moms for the war on women. I think that belongs to the politicians who believe they have a right to legislate women’s bodies.
I don’t fault women who have the resources to stay at home with their kids. What I do take issue with are women acting self-righteous about that choice. Just because you had the luxury to decide not to go back to work dose not make you better then the person who returns to a full time career or, heaven forbid, the woman who decides not to have children at all.

To boost the employment potential for newly graduated or currently enrolled MSW students, some schools of social work across the U.S. offer dual degrees and nontraditional career path programs that take advantage of the broad spectrum of skills social workers can offer.
This program offers services to LGBTQ people living in Suffolk County, NY who are dealing with domestic violence. Please take the time to visit the Face Book page; and add them to your referral database.
The current structure of our profession promotes fragmentation and isolation of social workers with different focuses into smaller groups. Social Workers are the only factor that permeates through every spectrum that effects the human condition ie Human Services, Hospitals, Corrections, Juvenile…
Here is the thing about same-sex marriage: There is a federal law called the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which defines marriage on the federal level as being between one man and one woman. When a state, like New York, makes it legal for same-sex couples to marry those couples are only able to access rights a privileges provided by that state to married couples. However, because of DOMA, they are excluded from 1138 federal rights and privileges that come with legal marriage. So you may have legally married your partner in your home state but, for example, you can not file a joint federal tax return because the federal government does not recognize your marriage.
That is why the next part of the fight for marriage equality has to be overturning DOMA.
Donors don’t just want to give money. They want what we call “personal discovery” that involves a give and take of information, shared by both the donor and the organization. They want to advocate, volunteer, test things out and be a part of the cause.
This part resonated with me. This is something organizations need to start doing more often. So many times I will receive a plea for monetary donations but I rarely hear from those same organizations asking for my involvement as a volunteer.
It would have been nice if the article went into ways Social Workers can get into the political arena. Also would have been helpful if the author had at least gone into more detail about the stigma Social Workers face in politics and how they can deal with that issue. I have talked about this problem before. Very few HR recruiters see an MSW as being capable of doing policy work because the assumption is we are only trained to be therapist or case managers.
In a world where moms depress the shit out of mild to moderately depressed women simply by continuing to exist after their daughters were ejected from the womb, comedian Sarah Silverman, who has been outspoken about her depression in The Bedwetter as well as her act, is ending the chain of pain…
